[S] - SBS sample survey on Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) (PMI)
Description The survey adopts a sample strategy and is targeted at legal units with less than 250 persons employed. The data collected answers the requirements of EBS EU Council Regulation No. 2019/2152. The Field of observation is represented by the legal units in the business register of active enterprises (Asia) in the reference year. The main variables collected annually by an electronic questionnaire concern business accounting, employment, personnel costs, and investments. The data collected is processed using statistical procedures to ensure consistency and coherence, as well as non-response techniques, by integrating data from administrative sources. The classification of economic activities corresponds to the current Ateco/Nace version (Ateco 2025 or Nace Rev.2.1 for the editions starting from 2025; Ateco 2022 or Nace Rev. 2 for the previous ones). The survey uses a random sampling design stratified by economic activity, size classes of persons employed, and administrative regions. The estimation methodology is based on calibration, using known totals from the business register (the number of persons employed and legal units).
