[C] - Government expenditure by function according to Classification of the Functions of Government - COFOG
Description
The COFOG is a classification adopted internationally by the OECD, the IMF and Eurostat, it is divided into three levels of analysis: the first level consists of ten divisions, each of which is divided into groups, in turn divided into classes. Divisions can be considered as the goals of public spending, while groups and classes represent the interventions through which these aims are achieved.
The first six divisions concern interventions and services of a collective nature (general services of public administrations, defence, 'public order and safety, economic affairs, environmental protection, housing and community amenities; the remaining divisions mainly concern interventions and services of an individual type (Health, Recreation, culture and religion, Education, Social Protection).
