The 2014 State-Regions Agreement established that Shelter homes are “dedicated services, with secret address, that provide safe accommodation for women who have suffered violence and their children, free of charge and regardless of their place of residence, with the aim of protecting women and their children and safeguarding their physical and psychological safety”.
This data collection is aimed at providing, on a national level, a depiction of the services offered and the characteristics of those using the services of public and private Shelter homes, in order to steer policy operations.
Istat carries out the data collection on Shelter homes as a part of a partnership agreement with the Equal Opportunities Department at the Presidency of the Council of Ministers (DEO)
Data are collected on annual basis from all the Shelter homes hosting women who have suffered violence and their minor children. Accommodation and support are provided together with other services needed to recover from violence through a personalized path, designed by the Shelter home together with the woman.
