[C] - Integrated municipal daily mortality database
Description Istat, thanks to the collaboration activated with the Ministry of the Interior for the timely acquisition of ANPR data (National Registry of the Resident Population) and with the Ministry of Economy and Finance for the acquisition of the flow of the deceased through the Tax Register, is able to contribute to the dissemination of information useful for understanding the situation linked to the health emergency from COVID-19. The use for statistical purposes, and the related processing of information also allows the dissemination of data relating to the general mortality of over 90% of Italian municipalities.
Eurostat type of process classification Statistical compilation other than National Account
In a normal situation, the detailed information that the Institute releases (daily series of deaths by sex and age group) requires the completion of a process of acquisition and validation of the microdata of cancellations from the death registry which involves approximately 10 months later than 31/12 of each reference year (validated data for year t-1 are disseminated in October of year t). By virtue of the emergency situation, Istat has undertaken to ensure the dissemination of this information with a very tight timing, with the foresight, however, that the data must be considered provisional and subject to change with future updates. Unlike the statistics relating to the balance sheet of the resident population, which Istat periodically updates, the date of death refers to the date of the event and not to the date of cancellation.
