Description
|
The Business Register ASIA was set-up in 1996 according to the European Council Regulation No. 2186/93 on Community coordination in drawing up business registers for statistical purposes, then replaced by Regulation (EC) No 177/2008. ASIA covers all enterprises carrying on economic activities contributing to gross domestic product at market prices, in the fields of industry, commerce and services, and it provides identification (name and address) and stratification (main economic activity, size, legal form, date of creation and date of cessation, turnover) variables.
In terms of economic activities ASIA excludes from its scope: agriculture, forestry and fishing (Section A in NACE Rev.2); public administration and defense ; compulsory social security (Section O); activities of membership organizations (Division 94 ); activities of households as employers; undifferentiated goods- and services-producing activities of households for own use (Section T); activities of extraterritorial organizations and bodies (Section U); units classified as public institutions and private non-profit institutions.
The Register is yearly updated through a process of integration of administrative and statistical sources. Its regular maintenance ensures the updating of the active units, providing an official source of data, harmonized at European level, for statistical analysis of the business population and its demography.
It has a central role in the field of business statistics: it is used for the estimates of the National Accounts and it supplies sample frame and population data necessary for conducting Istat surveys on enterprises, and it identifies the target population for the preparation and co-ordination of surveys, and for grossing up survey results.
