The Adult Education Survey (AES) is conducted regularly by all European countries based on specific regulations that define the contents (questionnaire), methods of data collection and transmission and the timing. It is one of the main sources of data on adult participation in education and training activities which are "all learning activities undertaken throughout
life, with the aim of improving knowledge, skills and competences, within a personal, civic, social and/or employment-related perspective (lifelong learning)".
The data, harmonized at European level, allow comparisons between European countries and insights up to regional level, representing a useful tool for policy makers to develop effective policies for updating and retraining human capital.
